A fellow Celiac Chick named Tamara has been communicating with me and the social media contact for the Red Cross via Twitter. She was trying to figure out a way for people to get gluten-free food at shelters here. She kept emailing me for help and to brainstorm about possible solutions.
At first the Red Cross contact just kept responding to us with the answer that they did not have the means to supply gluten-free food. I understood, but after finding out that they have vegan and kosher food it became a little frustrating.
We have good news to report! As of yesterday they are now saying that they will find gluten-free food for people if requested at one of the shelters!!!! Yay!!!
Thank you, Red Cross! And thank you, Tamara, for your tireless efforts trying to get gltuen-free food to those that need it!
By the way, it’s super cold here now and snowing. If you’d like to help the people left without homes or power due to Hurricane Sandy, click here for a bunch of ways you can help! Thank you!
