What would you think if Friedman’s closed down their restaurant to the general public on a Sunday afternoon just for us?
I recently spoke with Vanessa Phillips and she offered to pull some strings in order to have a special little CeliacChicks party at Friedman’s. She also wants to make gluten-free potato pancakes and gluten-free french fries for us! Yup, you read that right, the restaurant will clean out their fryer for french fries and also make special gluten-free potato pancakes for the day.
Here is the proposed menu:
Appetizer: (choose one) Split Pea Soup or Ceasar Salad with gluten-free croutons
Entree: a smaller sized sandwich than the usual (uh, before you whine, the usual size is HUGE and could easily feed two people) with your choice of Reuben, Turkey, Pastrami or Egg Salad. All sandwiches will come with a choice of fries, potato salad or a potato pancake.
One drink
Coleslaw
Gus’ Pickles .
…and a fun goodie bag for you to take home.
This is well over a $30 value for the cost of $25, not including the tip, if we can fill the place.
I also would like to set it up similar to the Pala event where you can mingle in one area of the restaurant, but you don’t have to mingle if that’s not your thing. I think one reason why we had such a great turnout at Pala (along with it being free, great food, and great atmosphere) was because people had a choice to socialize, just enjoy their food with their own little posse, or by themselves.
This is a really nice gesture as well as a very good value, so I thought I’d run it by you and then let you decide.
"Power To The People" is ringing in my ears now.
So let me know if you want to do this in the comments below. If we get a huge response then I’ll move forward and officially plan this with Vanessa.

my husband would join us, too, he is happy eating GF
(He’s the baker in our house!)
Awesome! If I had enough notice, I’d come up on the train from Philly just for the day!
(It’s so funny, I was reading the menu and my ‘I can’t eat this’ instinct kicked in. *facepalms*)
