Coconut Nectar

2 Comments 19 November 2012

Have you tried coconut nectar yet? It’s one of my latest discoveries!

I absolutely love it!

The brand I use is Coconut Secret and it is low glycemic, gluten-free, GMO-free, fat-free and vegan. And it tastes delicious!

Coconut nectar is hard to describe; a bit like agave, but heartier and with a slight tang. I don’t use it in coffee or tea, because I think it might make it taste weird, but I love it drizzled on hot or cold cereal.

It pours slower too. More like sticky molasses. Coconut nectar is made from the sap of coconut tree blossoms. Who knew?!

On the glycemic index (GI) scale it’s only a 35, which is super low.

Another cool thing about it, according to the Coconut Secret brand label, is it has “minerals, amino acids, vitamin C, broad spectrum B vitamins and a nearly neutral pH.” So, it’s not empty calories, like refined sugars. It’s also a “raw, enzymatically alive product, minimally evaporated at a low temperature.”

You can over do it with any sweetener, but I think switching to healthier alternative sweeteners is a good way to start cutting back on refined sugar.

So, try some coconut nectar! And come tell us all what you think about it!

I’ve been using coconut nectar in my coffee lately and it’s not weird tasting…try it.
I was at Wegman’s this weekend and found it in a granular form which is much less messy.
