Today I had gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, egg-free Twinkie lookalikes show up at my front door, courtesy of Elisabeth Gordon. The recipe for these little beauties is in her new book The Complete Allergy-Free Comfort Foods Cookbook.

(Note: I recognize that health issues that respond to a gluten-free diet are not necessarily related to a gluten “allergy”. However, many of us that are gluten-free due to celiac disease do have other food intolerances.)

I met Elizabeth a few years ago when she dropped off some of her Betsy & Claude brand gluten-free cookies at my office job in midtown Manhattan. (Sorry, I don’t think I ever told you about them, but the packaging was totally eco-friendly adorable and the gingersnap cookies were to-die-for. These little babies were even featured on Rachel Ray as Snack Of The Day.)

Elizabeth gave up the hectic cookie company life in order to pursue writing allergy-friendly cookbooks. Her first book is titled Allergy-Free Desserts and now her latest creation is The Complete Allergy-Free Comfort Foods Cookbook.

    Our family consists of four celiac people, 2 adults, 2 children.Then to add to that we have dairy, soy, & corn sugar issues…Always hard to figure out what we all can eat . It would be nice to have a cookbook that could steer us in the correct direction & make life /cooking in our house a bit easier…

      My daughter and I are both celiac – but my daughter is also allergic to the following foods: soy, corn, brewers yeast, almonds and most nuts, bananas, all dairy, coconut, eggs, garlic, safflower, tomato, red beans, thyme, and vanilla bean! I can use all the help I can get since we found out all these new allergies only a month ago!

    I have too many to list here, but the major ones are gluten, corn, dairy, eggs, caffeine and preservatives. Also have trouble with garlic, yeast and sugar.

    I’m so glad you mentioned corn is in guar gum! That explains a lot…

    I’m overwhelmed. It was just yesterday that my daughter and my blood/food test results were in. Mine came back with EGG and YEAST. My 11 year old daughter came back with GLUTEN, EGG, DAIRY, most MEATS. I don’t know where to start. This is a new world to me. I was searching on amazon last night and was looking at this book and then this morning there was a link on twitter directing me here. I would LOVE a copy of this book.

    I’m gluten free, lactose free, allergic to shellfish and stay away from mold-related foods like yeast and mushrooms.I don’t personally have a problem with this food intolerances, but it’s not a great list to provide to a dinner party host!

    I am a brand new health coach that has just been on the most amazing journey learning about my health and wellness through Integrative Nutrition. I was diagnosed hypothyroid 4 years ago and have been on different doses of thyroxine several times throughout those 4 years. I discovered that i have Hoshimotos and should not be eating gluten. I have been gluten free for 4 months now and my life and health are so much better! My body has calmed down. I can’t wait to help other people struggling with food allergies through my learnings. The biggest change I have had to make is learning to cook gluten free. I would love to win your book and share it with my future clients!

    I have an autoimmune response to gluten, which causes chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, restless legs and headaches. My son has the same gluten issues but also can’t tolerate dairy.

    We really want that book!

    After suffering for a couple of years with stomach issues, I finally have an answer. I spent most of my winter break in and out of doctors offices and underwent many tests and procedures from which the doctors told me on my 23rd birthday that I have Celiac Disease. One week down and I am feeling better but am overwhelmed trying to figure out what to cook other than salads and GF pasta. This cookbook would greatly benefit me and ease my anxiety of going GF. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity.

    I have many food allergies and am hypothyroid, diabetic, plus many intestinal problems but havent been diagnoized as celaci.
    I have been off all gluten products and discovered recently i also am allergice to dairy products,and sugaras well.
    would love to have this book as trying to fix foods for us is truly a hit and miss game for me.

    I am just learning that I have an issue and finding out which foods I cannot have. I know that bread is a huge one, I have been experiencing intestinal problems and have not been diagnoized as of yet as celaci. I feel better cutting out white, sugars and dairy using stocks that are glueten free for cooking “Kitchen Basics”. I have done this for a month now and lost 5 lbs. don’t feel bloated, tired and have energy. So I think I am on the right path and just need a helping hand with how to proceed and how to cook.

    I was diagnosed with Celiac in October 2011, and I have spent the last 4 months determined to ensure my new Gluten Free lifestyle has minimal impacts on my life. I have always been someone who eats whatever they want with a stomach of steel, so when I was faced with constant stomach aches for months I started getting tested for a laundry list of potential stomach issues!

    Once I was diagnosed I went into research mode – I read blogs, books, and news articles scouring the internet for tips and tricks to make my transition to a g-free lifestyle and easy one!

    I love to eat out and cook, so I am always on the hunt for new recipes and great local restaurant recommendations.

    My 10 yr old daughter was recently diagnosed w/ celiac. She has always been a super picky eater and now it’s even harder to find foods that are both gluten- free and yummy for her… I’m always on the search for new gf recipes! :)

    I am gluten intolerant and have been gluten-free for almost a year now. It’s amazing how much better I feel and I don’t miss any of the gluten-full foods I used to eat. I still have some issues with dairy as well, but they are less severe and I’m not ready to give up cheese just yet.

    I have a bunch of food allergies that cause anaphylaxis: most meat proteins like beef, pork, duck, etc. And then some sensitivities to foods that just cause hives and digestive troubles like nutmeg, and tomatoes.

    I have a 29 year old daughter who is gluten intolerant and has been eating gluten free for about 7 years. I have many of the symptoms and have been reluctant to give up my “normal” diet but I am now ready to start. The next week or so I will be transforming my kitchen and pantry. Wish me luck!

    I am allergic to the following: gluten, soy, eggs, and oatmeal.

    My 3 year old son is allergic to: gluten and is lactose intolerant. He is also on a Candia diet to get rid of his intestinal yeast.

    I wish I caught this sooner because I would’ve loved the opportunity to have won the cookbook because I too share alot of the allergies alot of the commentators have. I was diagnosed with having celiac disease a little over a year and a half ago and I was devastated when I realized I had to change my eating habits and the way I baked. After seeing my doctor and doing research on this disease I have (celiac), I’ve found comfort in learning how to eat and keep the symptoms at bay, by utilizing gluten-free recipes.     I just learned, after progressively worse symptoms over the past year, my 16 year old daughter is extremely allergic to cow’s milk, soy, egg whites, & wheat. I feel completly at a loss for how to help her. I want to tell her what she can eat instead of the depressing lists of what she can’t. I want to make her favorites safe and available again!

    Gluten – eating it makes me very ill, products with it in it makes me break out into a rash. Aspartame (not that I consider that food) but it gives me migraines.

    I just found out that I have food allergies and I am in desperate need of help with recipes! I can’t have gluten, corn,dairy, chocolate, bananas and beef! HELP!
