Glutenfreericeballsarancini

UPDATE 2/26/09: Edena wanted me to let you know that they are no longer making these with the vegan cheese. People kept asking for them to be made with real mozzarella. These also aren't made in a separate gluten-free fryer, so eat at your own risk.

Delicious gluten-free arancini, or rice balls, are now available at Pala. These little darlings are not only gluten-free, but they are also casein-free, dairy-free, corn-free–and vegan! Most importantly though, they are DELICIOUS.

Pala also serves Bard's Tale gluten-free beer now too!

Thank you, Pala!

OK that’s it I’m moving to NYC! There’s nothing like that here in Colorado.

Went here last night with my sis who has celiac. Food was very good – I could hardly tell the difference from a normal pizza (aside from the exotic toppings – pumpkin purée anyone?). And those rissotto balls were so good! Even my girlfriend who doesn’t like rice liked them

    Thanks for suggesting this place.

The arancini were great – discovered them on my own when eating there a couple weeks back. I really love how Palà keeps responding to their clientele and expanding the GF options on their menu. They now also have GF pasta dishes, and say that they have so much demand for the GF pizza crusts that they always have a big supply on hand, meaning I’ll never again have to call to check if I want to drop in there late, or on a busy night. The vegan options are also great, and my vegan roommate, who’s half Italian, is thoroughly smitten, saying they have options that she’s never seen anywhere else.

I’m confused…if the rice balls are fried in a fryer that is used to fry things containing flour, how are they gf?

    Anon,
The “rule” is that gf items should not be fried in the same fryer as non-gf items. Some people strictly abide by this rule, whereas others make the exception from time to time and reason that the parts per million of gluten are still probably very low.
Edena assured me that they have been making it clear to diners that they are not fried separately. She still wanted it to be announced clearly along with the change in vegan status.
When I was given the arancini it was a brand new item made just for me. I think that they had hoped the demand would have been higher in order for it to be worthwhile to dedicate a special fryer for them.
I hope this clears up any confusion.

I was there on Sunday and I had the GF pizza which was incredible. Almost got the rice balls but was not sure about the cross contamination issue. I can’t wait to go back for their Tasti pizza. The also mentioned TerraMare on the upper east side having some GF items.
