UPDATE 2/26/09: Their minis! Lynn dropped off some samples and they are sooo cute! I didn't realize that from this picture. The gluten-eating office drones around me reported that they were "super tasty".
Starting today you can buy a loaf of freshly baked gluten-free Better Bread at Lenny's.(74th & 77th St. locations) I'm not quite clear on the details yet, but it sounds to me like you can pick up a freshly baked loaf to go. I'll let you know more details about how they avoid cross contamination, etc. as I find them out.
Here's a quote from the baker's email:
"Lenny's is very high-quality and my products meet their critera. I know everyone says this, but I can promise you that you can't tell my bread is gluten-free.

UPDATE: I called and the staff that answered the phone sounded really confused. Turns out, after reading the description of the bread from the Lenny's website, she understood what I was talking about. The bread is there, but it is in packages and is NOT for sandwiches. It is "like a pound cake".

WOW! This has HUGE lunchtime implications. Will they make/deliver GF sandwiches too, or is it just a loaf that they’re selling? And any chance that they’ll make this stuff available at their place on 23rd and 5th?
I know that I’m already kind of spoiled, working across the park from Mozzarelli’s, but delivery of a GF Lenny’s sandwich would be EPIC…! (for some reason, Friedman’s won’t deliver this far north…
)
I asked for more details in my reply email, but they weren’t answered…yet. It looks like the bread comes in flavors too.
The website only lists a pumpkin and banana bread…is there sandwich bread too?
Oh Man! I wish I lived in NYC, but sadly I’m way over on the west coast, will have to learn to make my own. I enjoy your site, thanks for sharing.
Hi — called Lenny’s a few times and nobody has heard of this product. Any updates? Thanks.
Hmm…maybe they don’t sell them anymore. Perhaps you should try contacting the Better Bread Co. to see if they are still in business? If you do, please report back to us here. Thx.
No web page comes up on a search for better bread.
