Here's a photo of my first meal in Italy. I used the information below to communicate with the waiter and it worked! I have no idea what this was, some sort of beef in an amazingly delicious red sauce with capers. I also can't really tell you the name of the restaurant or the exact location due the fact that I was sleep deprived and had jet lag at the time.
Below is the Italian restaurant card I created that explains my gluten, corn, and dairy allergies. I know there are a few of you out there with the same food issues. Hope this helps!
Ho un’allergia a:
Granturco
Latticini

Wheat
I have a condition called celiac disease.
Please no bread crumbs, butter, corn starch. No dish with wheat flour in the batter, bouillon, meat/fish, sauce.
Could you suggest a few menu items that are safe for me to eat with my allergies?
Thank you for your help!

Great Read!
Hi, in Italy there is no problem to eat gluten free. There is very active association that has created a network of restaurants – hotel – bar – pizzeria in Italy. To view the local members please go here: http://www.celiachia.it/dieta/fuoricasa/ristoranti_etc.aspx
We are the world’s most advanced nation regarding celiac disease (at least that). Good holiday in Italy.
Alessandro –
How can you get this website in English? It looks like a great resource for my husband and I to use when we visit Rome, Florence, and Venice this summer!
Thank you very much for this – I have been diagnosed with Coeliac disease for a year now and was a bit anxious about navigating Italian menus!! I am going to use your idea about carrying a little card – a simple and perfect solution!!
thanks a bunch for this! A school trip to rome sounds exciting, right? yeah i thought so too.. until a month ago i was diagnosed with celiac disease! but now it looks fun again !
Can you please tell me where you found a card like this? I am gluten free and vegan and would like a card that specifies both in Italian. Thanks!
My son has the exact same line up of dietary restrictions! This is perfect. Thank you for sharing!
