The New York Times recently had a great article on where to dine gluten-free in Long Island.

Did anyone notice that one of the gluten-free ladies interviewed was Ms.Costanza?! That made me smile.

Cafe Baldo

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro

There is a pizza place in Greenlawn (Huntington) called Broadway pizza that sells gluten free pizza. Its really yummy! That was my favorite place before I was diagnosed, and only recently discovered that they have GF pizzas (they dont really advertise it), but if you live in the area its definitely a great place to have

Wanted to let your readers know that I ate at Caffe Baldo in Feb. 2008 during a business trip to Long Island. The Celiac Chick site had a good recommendation, so I decided to give it a try. I felt so blessed to find them I was nearly in tears. Joanne and her husband Giovanni own, operate and cook. Joanne is a diagnosed celiac and prepares all of the GF menu items with great love and skill. Caffe Baldo was the first and only restaurant at which I’ve dined that I felt completely safe (and carefree – I knew Joanne would take care of me) and not self conscience of imposing a food allergy type burden on the staff. The GF menu is extensive and very well rounded. Taking advantage of my good fortune to be there, I had the fried calamari, stuffed shells, garlic knots, and an orange sunshine cake to take for breakfast the next morning. Regardless of being GF, every morsel was italian perfection.

Don’t forget B Well Naturally in Plainview on Washington Ave and Manetto Hill Rd. They have a huge amount of gluten-free products and delicious gluten-free dishes prepared everyday in their “deli”.

Thanks so much for helping with information on gluten free spots on Long Island. I have eaten at PF Chang on several occasions (the latest being with my family this evening) and can attest to the quality of their food. We have eaten at Caffe Baldo several times as well, and their quality is also excellent. Both have excellent service. In addition, for those who would like gluten free goods for your home, Uncle Guiseppe’s supermarket (I believe there are 3 of them) has a very good selection.

I wanted to let everyone know that I tried Mr. Miceli’s in Rockville Center and it was amazing! I met Mr. Miceli himself and he too has a gluten intolerence and so is very understanding and accomodating. I tried the pizza and it was great! Possibly the best gluten free pizza I have ever had. Mr. Micheli will also prepare any pasta dish off the menu with the gluten free pasta he orders from glutenfree.com. I highly suggest the pizza but recommend you call first because he makes each pizza from scratch which takes some time. Enjoy!
