***SORRY, THIS CONTEST IS NOW OVER***

Did you know that Carrabba’s Italian Grill has a gluten-free menu? Years ago I ate at a Carrabba’s in Florida, before they had this GFRAP approved gluten-free menu, and they were super attentive to my gluten, dairy, and corn restrictions.

Did you know that there are over 200 locations nationwide? Here’s the map. Leery of chain restaurants? I understand. The impressive thing to me about Carrabba’s is the great care they take to make things from scratch, and the great distances they go to buy quality ingredients. You can read all about it here under Food Facts. Plus, you have to be a little charmed that both of the owners, Johnny and Damian, make statements thanking their Italian mama along with sharing little bios about these women.

ENTER TO WIN A $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE TO USE AT ANY CARRABBA’S

Please post a comment below to enter. One comment per person. (My blogging software tells me when you have entered more than once, so be nice.) Your comment can really be about anything, but you could let us know what you think about Carrabba’s, or what you would like them to add to their gluten-free menu, or just list your favorite Italian dish. There is no wrong answer. One winner will be randomly chosen on Sunday, February 15th, 2009.  The gift certificate will be valid from Feb. 17 to March 31.

wow. I tried this once & it didn’t go through so I’ll try again!
I drive over one hour to get to a Carrabas. it is that good. It is nice to be able to relax & enjoy a totally gf meal without a care. The staff & manager always come over to our table to make sure everyting is what we expected. We have never had a problem with carrabas. Its the place to go!Even if you must drive an hour to get to one!

So wonderful that you have a GF menu. All of us who are Gf really appreciate the wonderful manor in which your servers treat us and help in any way possible. I and our son are both Gf so wonderful that we can go out to dine and feel comfortable about it. Hope I win so can go out for our 51st Anniversary.

My family and I have not eaten out much since I was diagnosed with celiac 2 years ago. My 7 year old son was just diagnosed last week. I would love the opportunity to enjoy a nice meal out from Carrabbas with my family (you mean, I actually don’t have to cook it?). I have had several friends recommend their menu and rave about how good their food is, we just have not had the opportunity to partake. The best thing is that we actually have a Carrabbas only 10 minutes from our home. I would be pretty open to enjoying anything from the menu that is GF.

Carraba’s is one of my favorites here in Charlotte. I love the Chicken Marsala with the garlic mashed. The wine selection is excellent and the appetizer mussels are abundant and tasty.

I love going here for business with non-GF diners. I have my own menu and I don’t get all the questions about my illness.

I would love to see pizza on the menu. It is the one italian item I miss the most, lasagna would definately be second, followed by a broader variety for dessert, cannoli maybe?

That Chicken Bryan is one of my favorite meals! I must say though that on most of my visits to Carrabas the servers look at me like I’m from Mars when I ask if they are familiar with the restaurant’s GF menu.

Carrabbas was my aunt’s favorite restaurant before she passed away. The year that she got sick, we found out they had a gluten free menu so the two of us would go there together all the time. I love that place – it brings back such special memories :)

I would love to win a gift certificate to Carrabas. I’m so appreciative whenever a restaurant goes to the trouble of having a GF menu. It makes the dining experience much more enjoyable because it takes away at least one level of stress!

Carrabas is the only Italian restaurant that I trust to eat a GF meal.I wish they woud have a GF fancy ravioli (not cheese or plain meat). I have mastered making most of my favorites Italian dishes, since I am half Italian. But ravioli still eludes me!

We are soon to be visiting Disney World with our recently diagnosed daughter. We are THRILLED to see that there is a Carrabas right near Disney and we can’t wait to try it out. It has been so difficult eating out lately, even some places with a gluten free menu get her sick so we are getting worried about cross contamination. Carrabas will be a welcome addition to our Disney trip!!! Can’t wait! Thanks so much girls for all you do! You don’t know how much you really are helping everyone with this site! Keep up the great work!

I’m so excited to find out about Carrabba’s Grill being gluten-free. Since my diagnosis, I’ve been afraid to eat out and it has limited my restaurants. I was getting so tired of the same ones — now I can try something new! The Carrabba’s isn’t that far from me either.

The suitability of oats in the gluten-free diet is still somewhat controversial. Some research suggests that oats in themselves are gluten free, but that they are virtually always contaminated by other grains during distribution or processing. However, recent research[7] indicated that a protein naturally found in oats (avenin) possessed peptide sequences closely resembling wheat gluten and caused mucosal inflammation in significant numbers of celiac disease sufferers. Some examination results show that even oats which are not contaminated with wheat particles are nonetheless dangerous to about 10 percent of coeliacs, while not very harmful to the majority. Such oats are generally considered risky for coeliac children to eat, but two studies show that they are completely safe for coeliac adults to eat,

Since needing to live Gluten Free, I’ve found that new ideas from your website and restaurants who serve GF meals make it easier for me to find exciting ways of eating and assure me that I won’t starve. One good meal from a GF restaurant helps me get excited about taking the ideas home to become a creative cook. Thanks for your website!

I love eating Italian and was so bummed when I found out I am allergic to gluten. I had pretty much given up eating out UNTIL a friend of mine suggested your website. Here, I’ve found loads of gluten free dishes offered at lots of restaurants. Eating out has been restored to my ‘fun things to do’ list. My favorite Italian dish is Fettuccine Alfredo (or anything close!). Second runner-up is pizza :) One happy gluten-free eating girl!

    Ellyn says:

I avoid Italian restaurants or for that . matter eating out. Most servers don’t know what is in most the dishes they serve. So they tell you can’t eat anything or just lie and tell you the particular meal you want is ok. I would love to go to a restaurant that sort of caters to GF.

I’m happy to hear that Carrabas has a GF menu…although I’m saddened to know I can no longer enjoy their callarmari (spelling is wrong I’m sure)…my husband and I will have to make our way back! It would be nice if they could include some GF pasta…maybe in the future? Thank you!
