Celiac Disease Awareness Night With The Mets

There is going to be a Celiac Disease Awareness Night at Citi Field May 25th. Hurry up! There are only about 14 seats left and you have to RSVP by April 30th. Money raised will support the Long Island chapter of R.O.C.K. and the Celiac Disease Center At Columbia University.

Gluten-Free Washington, D.C.

It's cherry blossom time in Washington, D.C. - a great time to take in the sweet sights and smells of all the beautiful flowers as you stroll along the Tidal Basin. The cherry blossoms are peaking a little early despite all the tons of snow in the area earlier this year. And they are spectacular! 

We love D.C. because of all the great museums, monuments, and the Library of Congress (our personal favorite) and also because it is a great place to be gluten-free. So when you're done taking in the cherry blossoms, check out all the gluten-free restaurants down in our nation's capital!

There are a bunch of chain restaurants including Bertucci's (Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom), Legal Seafoods (Chinatown), Morton's (Downtown and Georgetown), Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (Downtown and Dupont Circle), and Uno Chicago Grill (Union Station). And then there are a series of really great gourmet, Zagat-rated restaurants unique to the D.C. area there that have a complete gluten-free menu including:

The event last Tuesday was an incredible success! Loads of gluten-free food, camaraderie, and a stellar show! We sold over 110 tickets and raised around $2500 for the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University.

THE FOOD

 

 

The gala on October 15th was super fantastic! Of course, the food was all gluten-free. The bread above was provided by Everybody Eats. The hallah was especially delicious! The cake was made by Everybody Eats too. I have to confess, the wine I drank made me throw all caution to the wind and I cheated (in regards to my dairy and corn issues) and indulged in the cake. I'm still recovering, but it was worth the momentary lightness of being that only the taste of butter can bring!

THE VENUE

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is about as posh as it gets with views of city lights and Central Park.

Of course, what really makes an event is the people. And there are some pretty amazing people within our gluten-free community. I was disappointed I didn't get to talk to, or even see, everyone I had hoped to catch up with. There were over 400 people in attendance! 

This year the honorees were: Colin Leslie, Foods By George, Rory & Bruce Teitelbaum, and Shire.
