The blogging software company I use emailed me today bragging about some high profile bloggers that have joined the blogosphere. I couldn’t resist clicking on the Martha Stewart link and to my surprise her latest entry mentions that one of her editors is gluten-free along with other food issues! Turns out she is having a contest and we can vote for the staff member that has the best new idea for her empire. Of course I voted for Alexis, the one behind the idea for a new gluten- free/food allergy related Martha magazine. I thought this was a great opportunity for all of us to encourage Martha to help us and at the same time help educate the general public about celiac disease.
Please go to the site and vote for Alexis!
Don’t forget…. you can vote once a day until February 7th!

Thanks so much for the shout out. As a Celiac, I have loved reading your blog over the years and am so excited at the prospect of developing a new magazine to help others with Celiac Disease and food allergies. I really appreciate your support and hope we can make this happen!
Best,
Alexis
Yippee! This would be such an incredible idea. To have the Martha Stewart kitchen team behind new and revised recipes, and to have everything in an organized, professional magazine would be incredible!
Thanks for passing the news on!
The idea is great! There is clearly interest, there is a need for a high quality “mainstream” publication of this sort…and it would certainly get a Martha Stewart publication into a lot of doors (mine) that wouldn’t otherwise be receptive to the rest of the MSO spectrum, fine though they may be.
The only thing is, I love the ladies at Gluten-Free Living…so I would hate for it to affect their efforts, but it may not…because they are focused on only gluten-free, whereas Martha’s mag would have to address multiple issues…sort of like Sully’s Living Without. So then again…I guess there is always room for competition, but I don’t want to make it hard on the people that have been around for awhile without the huge name to back them up.
Also, I was thinking that if there wasn’t enough info for a full monthly magazine that maybe it could be a mini magazine insert to the regular Martha mag. Alot of new mags start this way…and it would expose a huge amount of the population to the issue of food alleries/celiac that would not have ever picked up a separate magazine.
I’m so excited about this possibility–whether it results in additional gluten-free/allergen-free coverage in Martha’s regular mags or results in a separate magazine!
I know what you mean, Kelly. Some of these folks have been around for a long time working on increasing awareness and helping people with celiac disease, but on the other hand, the idea IS to increase awareness and Martha can help do that. Hopefully there’s room for everyone to thrive! Go Alexis!
Melissa
