Hey there! I'd love for us to stay in touch, so be sure to sign up for my FREE email notifications. I'd love to hear from you too, so don't forget to leave a comment below. Thx!

How on earth did we get the privilege of addressing celiac teens at Columbia University’s Patient Education Day this coming September 10th? [deep breath] We have no idea, but have gladly accepted the challenge.  Seeing that we will certainly not pass as actual teenagers (recalling Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed), we’ve decided to design and lead a lively round table discussion with at least one actual celiac teen at our side. So, we’re calling on all the cool celiacs ranging from 12 to 22 for help!  Please join us and bring your issues and your voice.  We would also welcome with open arms older attendees who perhaps were diagnosed as teens and can still speak from experience.  Can you help some chicks out?  Please?!

Besides, [pointing index finger] think of how being involved in a public round table discussion on celiac disease at Columbia University might look on your college application! Oh, and it’s pretty much a given that we will be supplying primo gf goodies during our talk. (We doubt the romper room clown next door will be packing treats.)

So you’d like to participate but you can’t make it because you live in Alaska? Don’t let that stop you! Share with us your concerns, ideas and solutions for celiac teen social issues and we’ll bring them to the group. Include a picture , so we can pretend you’re there with us while we dig into various topics. Just email either Kim or Kelly and give us your story and hopefully your phone number. We don’t have much time so please hurry. We need you!

Hey, I think this is a great idea to talk to patients at CU. I would like to participate in the event as well. I am a 23 y/o woman ( I liked the 12-22y/o cut off, I feel old!) who was diagnosed 2 years ago and I have been struggling with this disease every day since then. It would be great if I could talk with other people in similar situations. Let us know the details.

Congrats & kudos! It’s about time celiac got some recognition in arenas for young people! I would LOVE to join in, but I don’t know my schedule yet. I’m 19 and enrolled in NYC’s the New School. I was diagnosed only about 9 months ago. I grew up with it- my dad has it- but all the usual tests, including the one when I was born, came up negative. It took a DNA test to discover that I do indeed have it, and now having made the switch, I’m happier and healthier. (And have lost at least 10 lbs!) My doctor insisted on the test because I had Clinical Depression- it turns out that celiac can manifest that way instead of digestively! (I never had the typical symptoms.)

I’d love to come participate, or just listen in. Now I’m excited! :)

I am also 23 (and feeling old as my birthday was just last week! I swear I’m still 22….I swear..)

But I would LOVE to meet other celiacs, especially to ask how people deal with the social aspects of going gluten-free….

I would love to talk with teens too….
Does the Rountable at CU cost anything?

I would be interested in participating. I just turned 20 and was diagnosed when I was 4 years old. I have witnessed first hand the radical changes in celiac awareness from 1989 until now. the options now are so much better then when I was first diagnosed. I grew up in new york (and still live here. i go to school 30 minutes away) and am pretty well informed on how to live a gluten free lifestyle here (you guys have helped a ton!).

i think that discussing issues with other young people is an excellent idea, and i would love to offer my help. is there an email that I can send my information to?

I’m also 23 but would love to participate. I was diagnosed about 6 months ago with celiac and have been trying to find creative ways to stay on the diet. If you need more people let me know, sounds like a great idea.
I live pretty close to Columbia.

You may as well have posted the age limit as 23 because I too am 23 with Celiac (I turned 23 yesterday-can I still be counted as 22?) I would love to be involved with the round table discussion. I was diagnosed when I was 21. I probably had it for more then four years before I finally gave in and got tested for it. Life without bagels was not something I was looking foward to! However, I am looking foward to discussing Celiac with others my age and maybe even helping a few new ones cope. Let me know the details!
