Are you newly diagnosed with celiac disease?
If so, you may be eligible to join a study being done at Columbia Presbyterian University Medical Center examining the impact of celiac disease on your skeleton and following the effect of a gluten-free diet on density and quality.
Osteoporosis is one of the most common complications of celiac disease. And, approximately 75% of newly diagnosed patients with CD have some degree of bone loss.
Dr. Elizabeth Shane, Professor of Medicine at the Metabolic Bone Diseases Unit is working with Dr. Peter Green, Director of the Celiac Disease Center to examine the effect of a gluten-free diet on bone growth and regeneration.
They will be utilizing a new machine that can actually "see" the structure and matrix of the inside of the bone as well as its density.
If you are:

I was diagnosed in May 2007 but just found out about the bone density issue with Celiac in September. I found out in December that I have a bone density issue and need to see a specialist. I called there on Tuesday and never heard back from them. I really want to help out as much as I can, is there anyone else I can call?
