Photos From The Metropolitan Club

10 Comments 26 October 2007

Wednesday night was the 6th Annual Celiac Disease Center Gala Reception. The theme of this year’s benefit was "Advancing Early Detection".  All of the food was gluten-free and the event was at the gorgeous Metropolitan Club.  It was really fun to meet so many people that I had previously only known through emails.

It was difficult with the limited lighting to take a photo of this amazingly beautiful space, but I tried. This room had a table full of delicious gluten-free salads and appetizers. Of course, what really made the evening special was the good company!

Dr. Peter Green addressed the crowd in the dining area. Congrats to Dr. Green for his article that was published yesterday in the New England Journal Of Medicine!

Remember Gordon Jenkins, aka The Breadless Horseman, the adventurous guy who hiked the Appalachian Trail to raise money for the Columbia Celiac Center?  It was really fun to meet him in person! Here he is with my new friend, Megan.

Here are Mr. & Mrs. Jenkins, the proud parents of The Breadless Horseman. This sweet southern belle is going to come up with a gluten-free traditional southern sugar cake recipe to share with us all!

George

George and Ceil of Foods By George were there too!

Remember Dr. Doug Hertford, who gave us the skinny on Blue Smoke having a gluten-free menu? Well, I finally had the pleasure of meeting him and his charming wife, Amy.

Here is the lovely Mrs. Green, as in Dr. Peter Green’s wife (left), and Dr. LaPook (center) with his wife, Kate Lear (right).  Does anyone have "the perfect gluten-free cupcake recipe" they’d like to share with Kate?

I found my buddies Steven Singer (left) of GlutenFree.com and Alan Olshan from the Paul Taylor Dance Company (right).

It was a really great night and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again at the next fundraiser.

Hi, you need to show a picture of the “standing room only”” crowd! The event was a resounding success!! We raised awareness and lots of money.
It was a real treat meeting you in person as well. You are even prettier than your picture (if that is possible).
Thanks for all your hard work.
    Cheers. Deb Shear

    [blush] Thank you, Deb!

I know, I wanted to get a picture when it was crowded, but got carried away chit chatting with so many people. I know my photos don’t really do it justice.

It was so nice meeting you and your hubby! I was disappointed the photo I took of you was too dark.
Hope to see the two of you soon, maybe at the Paul Taylor event in Spring? I’ll announce the dates soon.
    Ciao!

Sea- Maybe sometime you guys can plan a trip out to NY and come with me! OR, maybe you can work with the Stanford Celiac Center to have a fancy benefit? I know, it would be a lot of work. Seriously though – I know you could pull it off! 🙂

    Karen aka Fab Grandma,

The grass is always greener, eh? The Oregon girl inside of me would love to trade places for a little while and experience your freedom within the nations beautiful national parks that most people will never get to see as you have seen them.

I’m glad you girls had fun looking at the pics. I always joke that I’m taking my “Vanity Fair” Celiac Event photos when I ask people to pose! heh heh

Kelly – We loved meeting you at the Gala on Wednesday night in NYC. I have pulled out my recipe for Moravian sugar cake, and I promise to begin working on a glutenfree version very soon. Will let you know when the recipe is perfected. Keep up the great work.

Kelly – thanks for showing us out here in the west all the excitment and gluten-free glamour we’re missing! Your photos reminded me of the Celiac Soireé at the International Symposium. Plus, it’s so nice to “meet” Annie Jenkins (hi Annie). I especially want to thank you for adding the link to Dr. Green’s new article. I downloaded it and found some new information to add to a presentation I’m doing on celiac next week. Thanks! Perfect timing.
