New York’s Newest Gluten-Free Bakery – Pip’s Place

I haven’t been yet, since it opens tomorrow, but here’s the press release for ya.

Denise Cumming, a former stay-at-home mom and avid baker, is opening Pip’s Place. Inspired by her daughter’s celiac disease diagnosis, she took on the challenge of creating her own menu of delicious, homemade gluten free treats.

Pip’s is an elegant, feminine cakery designed to be a safe neighborhood haven for those with celiac disease or gluten allergies and anyone seeking simply delicious, fresh baked goods.

Pip’s will open with a menu of over 40 gluten free cakes, cupcakes, cookies and muffins, all homemade daily of locally sourced ingredients. Customers can also stop by for a bowl of gluten free oatmeal or porridge in the morning accompanied by a cup of exclusive Brooklyn-roasted “Pip’s Coffee.”

I’m excited! I think there is room in the city for three or more gluten-free bakeries! What about you?! And if you go to Pip’s, please come back and tell us all about your experience.

DAIRY-FREE NOTE: Evidently, she has two muffins that are dairy-free.

Thank you so much for your note that she is going to have two dairy free muffins. THAT IS HUGE NEWS FOR so many who are gluten and dairy free! I can’t WAIT to try them! Please let me know if she plans to carry any other dairy free items.

I went to the new bakery today. I was so excited as I live and work on the upper east side – until I asked about oats and yes they use GF oats in many of the items and the equipment is used for GF oats as well as all the other ingredients. It would have been nice if she considered those of us that can’t tolerate oats such as myself. I did not really feel that the owner was overly concerned for those who can’t eat oats. So for myself I will not be able to enjoy this new entry into the GF marketplace.

I am so glad to hear this, although, do you think she could have found a more out of the way location??

I am leaving my Brooklyn house early tomorrow to trek up there to get some GF goodies!

I’m so happy that there’s a new GF bakery right near my apartment (although this might be a bit dangerous…) Tried the sour cream coffee cake, and it was to die for. I’ll definitely be going back for some more treats soon!

Yum! That looks so good! We were just visiting New York, so the news comes a little late for our last trip, but that just means we’ll have to go back!

I looked through your Massachusetts category, and, next time you’re in the area, you should definitely make it a point to stop at Nebo. It’s my favorite gluten-free restaurant of all time.

Love your blog! Can’t wait to follow!

My boyfriend lives in that area and he let me get two items for my birthday and it was so good. It’s expensive (no surprise there). It’s also right by a health food store and they have GF stuff in that store. Although, I find Fairway to be the best grocery store for me in that area. It’s cheap and since they aren’t a dedicated health food store, I can pick up other things I need while I’m there. I would love to know of anything else in that area since I spend a lot of time there.

I stumbled across your website and then this bakery and had to go immediately. I have a little one who is gluten free and honestly bakeries are so important, especially for kids. We hightailed it over here and it is AMAZING! Not only is the owner super sweet but there are so many different varieties of things now, including dairy free and sugar free items in addition to gluten free. I think we didn’t stop eating last night and I’m totally stuffed with sweets but we’re happy. This is a definite must go place.
