BABYCAKES AT DISNEY!

I’m SOOOOO excited!!! Babycakes is now at Disney World in Florida! Whooo Hooo! How fun is that?!! And isn’t it interesting that they actually have a bakery in LA, but instead of serving Disneyland first they jumped straight into Disney World!?

Did you know you can go to Town Hall at Disneyland and get a list of where to find gluten-free food there? I actually did this a few years ago, but honestly, I didn’t feel like telling you about it because the food, although gluten-free, wasn’t that interesting. AND, besides, as big kids my brother and I didn’t really care about the food anyway and we were more interested in seeing how many rides we could fit into the day. I don’t even know how many times I rode Space Mountain!

The super nice top chef there at the time explained to me the way they handle things, which is pretty amazing. He told me that Disney is so particular they have their own team of inspectors that go and check out food producers to ensure quality. The Disney resorts are really run almost like their own little country and since they are all about you having the time of your life they go to great lengths in order to ensure everyone is safe there.

SO, the fact that Babycakes is now in Disney World is extra exciting, because it is not only the beginning of the food there becoming more allergy-friendly, but more healthy! Evidently, restauranteur Larry Levy has made it his mission.

For now Babycakes is located in a corner within Fresh Apeel in Downtown Disney. The phone number is 407.938.9044 and the hours are 8am until 11pm daily! You can also contact them via email: DTD at babycakesnyc dot com. If you want to, you can follow them on Twitter, too.

If you go, please be sure to:

A) eat an extra donut for me
B) tell’em you heard the good news on Celiac Chicks
C) come back and tell us all about the details!

Thanks!

Kelly :)

Yay! Thanks for sharing this, Kelly.

When I was at Disneyland I found out they serve gluten free hamburger buns but I didn’t know you could go to the Town Hall to find where to get gluten free food.

This is valuable news! And with Babycakes possibly coming (I hope) I’ll be very happy to go there again!

Carol – Thx. Looking forward to your report! Have a fantastic trip!

Pat- I should have included more links to info about gluten-free options at Disney, but I was excited and this was sort of my first test post. If you google the term “gluten-free” Disney a lot of info comes up. Might help next time. :)

Here is a link for the Special Diets people at WDW. They’ve been great to work with! They gave us lists of gluten-free products on property and other things. They notify the restaurants that you have made reservations at so they can accomodate you also.

We are in the very beginning stages of planning our trip a year from now. Oh how hearing there are gf options makes my heart sing! I was so worried it was going to be a pain and/or that my girls (we’re all gf) wouldn’t be able to eat “what everyone else is eating”! Thanks for the info!

My daughter and I are so excited to hear of BabyCakes Disney! It’s our favorite local bakery at home and when I told my six year old daughter Lili the news, she jumped up and down. We made our first trip to Disney World this past summer and I have to say, I thought we’d be living on salads and “safe” fast food. Boy were we surprised! Every restaurant sent out their head chef and catered to all our gluten free needs. They had everything! And the few things they didn’t have, they took special requests and made whatever we wanted! We had absolutely no restrictions…and even found GF pizza and waffles! My one and only disappointment was that Epcot had no GF beer…so we drank tequila! LOL!!

We really, really don’t get Babycakes. After hearing so much about the place we, especially my celiac kid, were excited to find their store in Downtown Disney. Oh, man, was he disappointed. The only soy-free cupcake they had was made with bean flour, and even though it was supposed to mint chocolate, all you could taste was BEAN flour. Nasty and a waste of money. I couldn’t gag down my red velvet cupcake – it was too dry and gritty. Overall, a total waste of $8.
