Last Friday was pretty amazing. As if finding out I had been quoted twice in the New York Times wasn't fun enough, a box of gluten-free donuts was delivered to my office from Babycakes NYC!
What a perfect way to celebrate the media helping out with more celiac disease awareness! (Thank you, Lesley Alderman!)
I just happened to have my little handy camera with me, so I snuck into an empty office to take some photos for you. Sshhh! This was a top secret operation.
Let me tell you, it took some serious self control not to devour these little pretties before I could take some decent photos of them. (Notice the bite mark in the top photo.)
They were delicious, of course! Oh, and they are baked, not fried. I really liked the petite size of them. It makes them extra cute, and sensible too.
What was I going to do with all of them? Kim was out of town. I couldn't let these go to waste. Honestly, I didn't really want to share. I'm sure you understand, but at the same time I couldn't really chow down and eat the powdered sugar ones anyway due to the corn content.
(Yes, powdered sugar has corn starch in it, and I'm allergic to corn. All of the donuts have a touch of corn due to the baking powder.)
I didn't want you to just take my word for it, so I found two willing taste testers left in the office. Parker said that he actually talked to himself while eating his donut, "Mmm, this is really good!" Another taste tester was Jocelyn. She is good friends with Deb of Smitten Kitchen, so she get's to eat amazing non-gluten-free treats all the time. (Small cyber world, eh?) She exclaimed that they were delicious. Both Parker and Jocelyn said that they tasted a little different than regular donuts, but they were still very good.
Think about it. These are people that can eat Krispy Kreme donuts anytime they want to, saying that Babycakes gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free donuts taste GOOD!
Nuff said.
Thank you, Babycakes NYC! I *heart* you! [smooch]
